We always hear quotes and motivational phrases that tell us to keep our goals in mind, look toward the finish line, or to not lose track of your dreams… there’s hundreds of quotes with these themes.
That is exactly what we do when we pull plan.
With the End of Mind. We may pull a milestone plan with our major goal at the end. Or we may pull finite details to get us to the next milestone, the next week, 6 weeks, or whatever timeframe we have.
Building from your MAJOR goal, Lets break down our milestones. I’m going to take a very simple goal: Remodeling a bedroom.
First step, list out your activities:
Replace Carpet
Paint Walls
Add Chair Rail

Add Floor Trim
Add Crown Molding
Replace Light Fixture
Demo Carpet
Demo Light Fixture
Assemble Bed
Assemble Night Stand
These currently have NO SPECIFIC ORDER. Now Put them in Order. As you put them in Order, you’ll start to discover missing items (Ive italicized the new items identified when ordering them chronologically.)

Now with the end in sight… Your stickies would be placed in chronological order, but starting from the right and working left. For each one, make sure the predecessor is listed. What MUST be completed before the task can start. If you need to create more stickies, Create more. When you see the full duration, you can look at activities that may be able to overlap, or activities that may be able to increase manpower to save time and complete your project ahead of the initial schedule or your first pull.
This is a LOT to think about. A lot to process. And a lot of bass akwards thought process if you’ve never done it this way.
